This is a design project on Artist Summer Xia’s art exhibition and archive album. Placidity is the book’s title, and Morbidezza is the name of the exhibition. The work involves a series of posters, invitation letters, large displays for the art exhibition, and the cover for the archive book.

We decided on using this painting for the Placidity Exhibition poster for its monotone palette gave us the room we needed to work with the expressive calligraphy style typeface.

Archive Book Cover Design
A fluid and clean style was used for designing the cover in order to reflect the qualities of ‘morbidezza’. A series of quotes from Zhuangzi that inspired Summer Xia in her artworks are printed on the back.

I created the main typeface in these visuals using the Source Han Serif font as a base. I switched out one stroke in each character to ones I drew, imitating the texture of Chinese Calligraphy.
